Israeli police begin investigating against Weizman-General Elyakim Rubinstein ordered the police and tax authorities to launch the investigation into suspected business links between Weizman and French millionaire Edouard Seroussi in 1983 and 1984. Rubinstein noted that these ties continued after Weizman became a cabinet minister.

For the first time in Israel's history, police launched a criminal investigation of the president.Now the Israeli President Ezer Weizman is facing an investigation and judicial proceedings over gifts of more than $450,000. Mr Weizman, who became president in 1993, has admitted receiving substantial sums of money from French millionaire businessman Eduoard Sarousi .Mr Sarousi had transferred the money into Mr Weizman's and his wife's private accounts on an almost monthly basis between 1988 and 1993, when Mr Weizman was a member of parliament and minister.
